Hiking trails
Zalaegerszeg train station– Jánka-hill – Erdőgyöngye Guesthouse (Erdőgyöngye Vendégház) – TV observation tower.
Signposted: red stripe, distance 5.5km, approx. 1.5hr
The walk begins in front of the train station in the Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Square by the liberation memorial. Head towards Jánka hill- the route is not sign-posted at this stage.
Once you have climbed Jánka hill, you will come across the red stripe sign-post and continue following it. During clear weather, you can see the tops of the Kőszegi mountains from the top of Jánka hill.
Leaving the wooden belfry, you will come to a junction where there is a stone cross. In the forest, carry on until you reach the guesthouse called Erdőgyöngye Vendégház. Continue past the forester’s house until you reach the end of the walk in the park surrounding the TV tower.
Circular route around Zalaegerszeg
Signposted: red stripe, distance 10km, approx. 3hr
You can chose your starting point anywhere on this circular route finishing at the same point.

The route hugs the hills, crosses residential areas, and takes hikers along the crest of the hills scattered with wine cellars. Part of the walk goes through forests and parklands.

Zalaegerszeg – Ságod – Kispáli – Nagypáli – Egervár (Roman Catholic church, Castle)
Zalaegerszeg – Szentkozmadombja, distance 22km
Zalaegerszeg – Bazita (Azalea Valley, Aranyoslap, TV observation tower) – Gellénháza (oil wells, lido, (War) Heroes’ Memorial, Roman Catholic church, statue of St Stephen in the church grounds) – Lickóvadamos (chapel, (War) Heroes’ Memorial, belfry, peasant houses) – Zalatárnok (500-year-old Roman Catholic church in which Ferenc Deák’s ancestors are interred, sculpture garden around the ornamental pond – Szentkozmadombja (mostly wooden houses arranged in clusters, Holy Trinity consecrated chapel)
