From 1755 the country town of “Zala Egerszeg” rented the inn from its squire. Situated in the settlement converted into a county-seat, the ever frequented inn increased the town’s income significantly. However, accommodating the increasing number of guests became more and more difficult despite the repeated extensions to the old building and for this reason the old Bishop’s Inn was demolished to make place for the new, three-storey hotel completed in its current form in 1894. Its 30 guest rooms and restaurant represented the highest standard of the time. The majority of the social functions were organised in the banquet hall on the first floor (today’s Winter Garden) bringing it fame in a short period of time. The three-storey hotel bearing a corner tower was enlarged with a new wing in 1965 and in 2013 a spa section was created in it.
