Árpád-house Saint Elizabeth Chapel

Perched on the prominent ridge of the “Őrzsehegy” hill stands the Árpád-house Saint Elizabeth Chapel, restored both inside and out. Little is known about its origins; it was built sometime in the 1880s. Recent research, however, confirms that a small wooden church with a single bell previously occupied the site—its construction dates back to the 1720s.

Above the entrance, housed within the tower, two bells call the faithful to prayer: the smaller weighs 60 kilograms, the larger 120 kilograms. After the original altarpiece was stolen during a break-in, a new painting of Saint Elizabeth was commissioned for the chapel. At its former side altar, an image depicting the Apostles Peter and Paul invites visitors to contemplation.
