The Evangelical Church

The neo-Gothic church of the evangelical congregation (1 Csány László tér) was built in 1906 according to the designs of Ernő Gerey. At the beginning of the 20th century, the church was built by Tamás Morandini upon the initiative of barely 2% of the town’s 9800 population who were evangelical. The walls of the church with particularly nice internal wall paintings also shelter a real rarity: an Angster organ, which has although been mechanically transformed, is still operational. József Angster was one of the most favoured organ makers of Central-Europe and an outstanding figure in Hungarian industrial arts; his organs can be found in many places from as big churches as the Votive Church of Szeged to the churches of very small settlements.

On the east side of the church, there is a statue of Márton Luther, created by the sculptor Ferenc Farkas.
