Let us spend some time in the square in front of the Sándor Hevesi Theatre (3 Kosztolányi utca) where since Christmas 2005, a real curiosity can be seen. As an unparalleled opportunity, we can observe the 250 year old workings of the original tower clock of the Mary Magdalene Parish Church. It stands in operation on the ground, in a glass case decorated with the works of art of János Németh ceramic artist. The first known document about the clock is the contract executed with György
Volner clockmaker in 1771. The tower clock was damaged in the fire devastating the town at the beginning of the 1800s. After this the mechanism which moved the hands of three faces per tower became one which operated the tower clocks with four faces each. The renovation of the clock was supervised by Miklós Kancsal mechanic and József Preisz watchmaker, the 600 kg mechanism is checked every forty days.
