The family moved out of the town after WW1. The condition of the building deteriorated, it was neglected and became derelict. In 1978 it was restored by the Zalaegerszeg Town Council.
Dezső Keresztury literary historian, academic, poet and literary translator (the son of the late builder of the house) donated a part of his collection of books and valuable pieces of furniture in contribution to furnishing the commemoratory house, creating the library and receiving guests. At the moment 7910 books, several journals, filmstrips and videos keep his memory. There are many autographed copies among the books. Recalling a part of the county’s history, along with the old furniture and pictures there are several volumes from writers and poets of historic Zala that might be referred to as bibliographic masterpieces.
The town is also operating the museum as a cultural research centre that awaits writers, poets and scientists who started out in Zala County. The town intends to encourage anyone attracted to this landscape that arrives in Zalaegerszeg with artistic or literary inspiration or the intention to carry out scientific research in Zalaegerszeg.
