The Quarterhouse built by Maria Theresa in 1765 with a Neo-Baroque façade was originally used as the quarters for military officers in transit and then it housed county officials. It also used to serve as an administrative centre of the county and today the offices of various businesses and authorities can be found here. In 1891, a Neo-Classicist Assembly Hall was joined to the building and this is where the General Assembly of Zalaegerszeg Town with County Rank meets currently. In summer evenings special open-air performances named “Quarterhouse – theatre, dance and music” are held in the inner yard of the building.
