The Reformed Church

At the end of the 1930s the small reformed congregation took the initiative to build a church (of the population of 13,000 at the time barely 80 practiced this religion). In order to raise the capital for the construction works, they posted 2000 postcards all over the country showing the church to be constructed. The designs of Bálint Szeghalmy were completed in 1937 and the church was consecrated in 1942 (2 Rózsák tere). This building drawing on the traditions of Transylvanian architecture also has its secret: its painted glass windows were removed during the war to protect them and the paintings of Imre Zsellér depicting the coats of arms of historical families were only placed back in the last decade of the 20th century. Its tiled stove with flower ornaments was made by Gábor Németh master stovemaker.
