Opposite the courthouse at 2 Deák tér, we can discover a mysterious building. The Sóház (The Salt House) is one of the few buildings erected in Zalaegerszeg in the 18th century about whose formation, history and of the commercial life once conducted in it, we know very little – these secrets have been hidden from us by the walls. This building was originally erected to store salt but it has also accommodated an ironmongery. One could approach the courtyard though an arched gateway on the left side of the building. The house has been repeatedly reconstructed in the past centuries and most recently accommodates offices and shops.
