Dating back to a relationship formed over thirty years ago between the Museum of the Hungarian Petroleum Industry and Pál Tóth – the Antal Pech Miniature Book Collectors’ Club (in Miskolc) leader and Mining Engineer School Principal. The good relationship resulted in the 1987 publication of a bilingual (Hungarian-English) miniature book (4cm×5cm) on the history of the museum. Furthermore, the museum now has over 1,000 miniature books on a variety of topics.
Even rarer, in the museum’s possession are unusual Japanese relics. In leather sheaths, in leather cases, are three tiny books in brown, blue and red, measuring just 2mm×2mm×1mm. With 16 pages in the English language, they are considered the smallest books in the world.
The blue book’s title: The Language of Flowers; the red: Birthstone; the brown: The Zodiacal Signs and Their Symbols. In addition to these three, there are three similarly covered books available “for reading” in the grand measurement of 20mm×20mm×2mm.
The world’s smallest books can be viewed at the Museum of the Petroleum Industry in Hungary.
