The Hotel Arany Bárány’s banquet hall, Télikert (The Winter Garden), has hosted (and is still hosting) social events in the town on several occasions. It was in this very hall where Zalaegerszeg residents could see motion pictures for the first time.

The announcement in the Zalamegye (Zala County) newspaper on 8 November 1903 reads that the performance of the scientific theatre from Székely Land presents a heap of novelties to the audience, among others, the story of The Maid of Orléans, as it had been presented on the Parisian stage. As the newspaper expressed, “it is the first time in Hungary that a whole play can be enjoyed as a whole in moving pictures”.
