Well of the Virgin Mary in Csácsbozsok

At the western foot of the Kisfaludi Hill, in the shade of century-old beeches, three springs used to flow and at their intersection the altar of the Virgin Mary was erected in 1934. Today, it remains a popular shrine and visitor destination.

The creation of it as a sightseeing destination was supported by József Mindszenty parish-priest of Egerszeg; the Virgin Mary statue is the creation of János Vörös. Visitors (day-trippers, hikers and tourists) were keen on visiting this beautiful spot. It eventually became custom to recite the litany on Sundays and greet the Blessed Virgin with songs. The spring is a symbol of the well of eternal life and the virtue of youth. In 1978 vandals knocked over the statue which was restored and returned to its original position by sculptor Péter Szabolcs. In 1990 both the spring and its neighbourhood were restored which has been commemorated in a plaque.

The spring’s water was tested in August 2008 upon the order of cantor József Bálizs and was proved to be of excellent mineral water quality.
