Becoming the country’s 26th theatre when it was founded in 1982, it was established in the building of the former County Cultural Centre. Bearing the hallmark of its name, the beautifully restored building featured at its grand opening on 11 October 1983 the premier of Imre Madách’s “The Tragedy of Man”.
In addition to theatre productions, the theatre has other functions. Since 1984 it has been the home of the Kálmán Nádasdy Actor Training Studio. The Griff Puppet Theatre, est. 2004, performs here as well.
Plaques commemorating the theatre’s founding members can be admired by the public. These life-long members are remembered in relief by the entrance.
