ZTE Arena

Located at 16 Október 6 Square, the ZTE Arena stands on the historic grounds of the former MOVE sports field, where lively sporting activity flourished as early as the first decades of the 20th century. In those days, Zalaegerszeg had three football clubs; among them, the association founded in 1914 as the Zalaegerszeg Sports Club was later renamed the MOVE (National Defence Association) Sports Club. Their headquarter used as a skating rink in winter, was eventually taken over by the footballers of the Zalaegerszeg Gymnastics Association (ZTE), founded in 1920.

The ZTE Arena was constructed in 1972 with the enthusiastic assistance of hundreds of local residents. The timing was no coincidence since that same year the ZTE football team was promoted to the first division, prompting designers and builders to complete the new stadium in time for the season’s opening match. The all-time attendance record was set that autumn on 22 October 1972, a crowd of 22,000 spectators watched ZTE defeat Újpesti Dózsa 1–0.

In March 2017 the stadium underwent a complete renovation; all four stands are now fully covered. Today the arena can welcome 11,200 fans.
