Based on the number of sunny hours, Zalaegerszeg is considered to be one of the less sunny areas of Hungary, cloudy periods are more frequent, and fog often forms in the valleys. However, these conditions are ideal for forest growth. From this perspective the city is in a favourable position: large, continuous forest areas surround it from the south and east, while the north and west sides are more open. Another advantage for hikers and nature lovers is that the city’s forest parks are located relatively near the city centre.
