A vámos híd már a múlté, az „újat” 1952-53-ban építették (a budapesti Árpád-híd kicsinyített másaként), ahogy az avató táblán is szerepel: „az ötéves terv keretében”. Kaszaháza keleti oldalán találjuk az 1974-ben elnevezett Vásártér utcát, amely az egykoron országos hírnévre szert tett állatvásártérhez vezetett. A folyóval párhuzamosan futó szakasz 1957 óta Zala utca.
Keszthelyi kőfaragó műhely kedves szobra vár bennünket a kaszaházai hidat követő útkereszteződésben. A magas posztamensen Nepomuki Szent János 1802-es keltezésű szobrát látjuk, lábánál kis angyalka vidítja fel a nézelődőt. Zalaegerszeg számtalan alkalommal szenvedett a Zala folyó áradásaitól az évszázadok során, így a szobor felállítását ez is indokolta, lévén Nepomuki Szent János a folyók, hidak, vízimolnárok és halászok védőszentje.
Új Kaszaháza van születőben. Az ezredfordulót követően egyre-másra épülnek a lakónegyedek a dombos körzetben. A Gólyadombi lakópark, a Zala folyó közelében felépített társasházegyüttes, valamint a Kaszaháza nyugati részén épülő házak arról árulkodnak, hogy az akár Gébártig, Oláig, Bazitáig tartó tájkép sokakat csábít az itteni letelepedésre. A 2012-ben megnyitott új közterületek nevei is beszédesek: Malom sétány, Panoráma tér, Levendula utca, Rózsavölgyi utca…
Kaszaháza Impressions
The old customs bridge is now of the past; the “new” one was built in 1952–53 as a miniature counterpart to Budapest’s Árpád Bridge, as stated on its inauguration plaque: “constructed within the framework of the Five-Year Plan.” On the eastern side of Kaszaháza lies Vásártér Street, named in 1974, which once led to the nationally renowned livestock market. The section running parallel to the river has been Zala Street since 1957.
At the crossroads just beyond the Kaszaháza bridge, a charming sculpture from the Keszthely stone-carving workshop greets visitors. The high pedestal carries a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dated to 1802, with a small angel at his feet offering a cheerful sight. Throughout the centuries, Zalaegerszeg has repeatedly suffered from the floods of the Zala River; thus, the installation of the statue was fitting, as Saint John of Nepomuk is the patron saint of rivers, bridges, water millers, and fishermen.
A new Kaszaháza is now taking shape. Following the turn of the millennium, residential districts have been built one after another across the hilly area. The Gólyadomb residential park, the apartment complexes near the Zala River, and the homes rising on the western side of Kaszaháza all attest to the growing appeal of the landscape stretching as far as Gébárt, Ola, and Bazita. The names of the new public spaces opened in 2012 speak for themselves: Mill Path, Panorama Square, Lavender Street, Rose Valley Street…
