Spital

Opposite the Pontház a building of varied history can be seen. The Ispita (Spital) (2 Ispotály köz) was erected from the estate of Máté Pintér manor bursar of 1790 but was only ready in 1806. It served as an alms house for the poor of the town until 1848 when it was extended with a 12 bed hospital. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the building was transformed into a two-story one (to the plans of Román and Tamás Morandini), and it also obtained its eclectic main façade with the town’s coat of arms depicting Mary Magdalene. In the 1930s, town offices operated in it and therefore it was also referred to as the town hall minor. Later, healthcare institutions operated in it and today the building is tenanted by a bank. On its side facing Ispotály köz (Spital Alley), the relief of János Németh ceramic artist depicting St Roch makes reference to the buildings past role in healthcare, while the wall paintings by János Vörös situated next to the entrance refer to the history of Egészségház (The House of Health).
